Material Substitution/Pollution Prevention

By their nature, it is not likely that your material handling operations would have viable material substitution options to prevent pollution. The most likely way to prevent pollution from these types of processes is to ensure that any capture or control measures in place are as efficient as possible.

Dust sources

(grain, concrete, rock, sand and gravel, storage piles, roads and parking lots)

- minimize the ability of the material to become entrained in the air by using water or other liquids to keep the material wet, provide walls or similar structures to block wind, etc.

Organic compound evaporation

(storage tanks)

- performing proper maintenance to minimize leaks will reduce emissions.

Incinerators

- performing proper maintenance and optimum operating conditions will minimize the emissions that result from incomplete combustion.
