MIDWEST Legislative Report

      • MIDWEST AREA RALLY
      •     May 5th 2006
      • Legislative Committee Meeting

Bavarian Inn and Lodge, Frankenmuth, Michigan

The 2007 Midwest Area Legislative Meeting came to order on May 5, 2007 at 2:30 P.M. and there were 5 of the 8 states present. (Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin) All states received a packet of information in regards to the topics to be covered.  Folders were given to those attending the rally representing the states not with a committee person present at the legislative meeting (Illinois, Minnesota and Missouri).

The committee present went on to discuss in detail the following items:

CAP WIZ handouts specific for each state in regards to subscription status and also reviewed detailed reports on the latest alerts and how each state has responded to the messages and alerts.  Several reports were in the folders for each states. We also reviewed a spreadsheet showing the membership percentages by state and area plus the cap wiz subscribed users by state and area. We looked at several of the reports that I can look at in the CAP WIZ report system. We looked at the CAP WIZ website since I had my lap top at the meeting and internet access. We went over the costs to CAP WIZ and that the 3 year initial subscription is expiring in September 2007. This will be voted on at the National Convention.

PAC information was reviewed and we discussed several items. We looked at the latest quarterly report that had been posted to the FEC website and requirements for signing up on the employee personal page. We looked at the PAC brochure and the letters that had been sent through CAP WIZ as informational tools to NASCOE members.

The Committee then reviewed several items in regards to the Conservation letters that had been sent out and the position papers. We also reviewed the Getting Green paper and the information in regards to Conservation and Future Farm Bills.

We discussed the request for the states to work on Coalition partnerships. We reviewed the brochure and the past letters that had been sent out explaining the need and what was expected. We talked about building the coalition with WIFE (Women Involved in Farm Economics) and also the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Organization.

I discussed who all the Legislative committee members were, where they were from and our assignments for the past year.

We adjourned at 3:10 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Tammy Eibey, MWA Legislative Chairperson
