Lords of the Earth is a little bit like a crash course in whatever nation you play, that is if you want it to be.
There are always fascinating details every time you investigate an area you’ve not had some control over before. Looking into this area shows a great deal of name duplication. There are many Alfonso and Sancho’s in that period. I believe the one we are seeking here is the one I have listed. He controls a larger area in a historical context and seems the best starting Monarch for the position.

Historical Leon Monarchs Specific to the DV Campaign - Alfonso IV Historical Queen Consorts
My LOTE History regarding the area around Spain:
The closest I’ve played to Leon was Iberia in LOTE 30. That campaign had an alternative method of delivering a very limited newsfax and map. The nation was destroyed after I left the campaign but I think it was just a matter of time. The paranoia that surrounded my activities in the entire area had to create a few enemies. I was using various Ops to blame my activities on an SE based out of my nation supposedly. It was not apparent with just one piece, but after my neighbors starting gathering up what they knew it continued to point to Iberia. Oh well, thanks for the fun for those that also enjoyed 30 while it lasted.
LOTE 19 with Steven Olson as the GM turned out to be self destructive too. I made an effort over the course of about 4 turns to migrate the Kingdom of Norway to the southern tip of Spain. It was an offensive action really on a grand scale. Better lands, more ability to put a hurt on the shipping lanes, etc. Well that was approximately the same time that exploration was a big topic on the GM list and started to be implemented in campaigns. So I sailed along the coast for a bit with all my people and accumulated wealth only to crash upon the rocks and return home at the end of the cycle destroying 90% of the nation in the process. Should have explored first was the lesson in that one. So if your going to migrate make sure that you think of every detail for once you set upon that path its a do or die scenario.
