Colored Lemonade

We lived in a small house on Pleasant Street, which consisted of a kitchen, living room and two small bedrooms. This house, even though it was small, was the hub of many family activities. This was where Mother lived, so this was HOME. I lived there with her.
One evening we were celebrating something, -probably someone's birthday, and the house was full. During the course of the evening, the young people played board games at the kitchen table, the men played cards, and the women visited. Since it was a warm evening, I decided to make some lemonade. Before I actually made the lemonade, I had gotten the idea to play a trick on everyone. I got out the glasses and filled them with colored water. Then I added an ice cube to each glass, which put on the finishing touches, and made it look like a refreshing and tempting beverage. As I passed the tray of glasses, I had all I could do to keep a straight face as one after the other tasted the contents. Thinking that maybe they were the only one having plain water, they were too polite to say something, but just sat there with strange looks on their faces.
Finally I could not refrain from laughing any longer, and then one after the other remarked about the contents of their glasses. Everyone had a good laugh, but I think I laughed the hardest of all. I was surprised at myself that I could carry this trick out this far without laughing. Usually I can never pull a joke on anyone without giving it away almost right away by my laughter. After that I passed the real lemonade!
